Volvo V70 2400cc D5 Diesel Estate 2007

This is my third V70 D5, having reported on my previous ones below.

The same description applies in that is very powerful, reasonably economical, extremely comfortable, very practical and very, very tough. Everything works as it should and t...

Update 1:
After 4 months and 7,500 miles; pretty much as before, but with one important addition - turbo lag. Although this car absolutely flies, the 185bhp D5 suffers from significant amounts of turbo lag that my last 163bhp D5 (recently renamed 2.4D) never had. At constant speed it's fine, but when accelerating you need to think ahead to allow the turbo lots of time to pick up speed. I'd suggest that, unless you tow heavy trailers, the 163bhp 2.4D suits the car better.

Update 2:
2 Years and 47,500 miles. Still working well with no reliability issues. A few negatives to report, though.
1. Since the headlamps were re-designed in the mid life facelift, it's all but impossible to replace the headlamp bulbs yourself. As it is equiped with day running lights, the bulbs blow fairly regularly and it now requires a visit to the dealer's workshop to change a headlamp bulb.
2. It continues to irritate that several panels on the car show up a very different shade of silver in some lights. I showed it to the dealer early on and, in the daylight on that day, neither of us could see it. But, on some days, or under street lights, it looks absolutely terrible.
3. The D5 engine in this car seems to have got fairly noisy. I don't know if it's as a result of the extended oil change intervals, or if it's just a characteristic of the higher state of tune of the D5 (185bhp) over the previous version (163bhp), but it's enough to make me feel car sick if I'm in the passenger seat on a long journey.
Overall, I'd reduce the score from 4 peaches to 2.

Volvo V70 2400cc SE Diesel Automatic Estate 2006

So I have swapped my S70 after 11 years to a V70 and here are my first impressions. Very refined, well put together and a very nice car. It is badged as a 2.4D but has the D5 185 PSI engine - which is a little odd as the 2.4D badge was kept for the...

Noisy, slow and thirsty. So badly built that it is laughable. Half of the electrics work when they feel like it and the other half don't work at all. Trim rattles everywhere, terrible seats and the stereo sounds like it cost Ł10 at a boot sale.

UPDATE
I kept this car for about 15 months and 40,000 miles. The only reason I changed was because the car came with the job and I moved to another job. The first thing I did was get a new V70 D5 on order, so the first one can't have been bad. This time I went for the SE, rather than the S. The only really noticable difference is the change from 16" to 17" wheels and wider tyres. The ride is no worse, the handling a little better, but the fuel consumption is worse by about 5mpg. Reliability over the 20,000 miles I have done in this one is good, with only a broken rear washer and a broken key. Please bear in mind that the keys on these cars will break off you key ring after about 2 weeks never to go back on again; very annoying. I recently accepted an offer of a Volvo test drive in a C70. They wrote to me 3 days before the date to give me the terms and conditions of the drive and it included third party only insurance cover! Naturally, I had to decline the test drive. I wrote a letter to Volvo Customer Services to complain but I didn't receive a reply. This has left a bad taste.

UPDATE 2:
3 Years and 68,500 into ownership of my 2nd Volvo V70 D5: All the opinions about space, comfort and performance still stand. This 2nd V70 has been brilliant and it has been extremely reliable! Very happy indeed!! It has now reached the end of of its contract hire period, so, I've gone and got yet another one!!! Highly recommended car.
